Furnaces

Things To Consider Before Buying A Furnace

Furnaces are used both commercially and at homes for heating purposes. At homes we rely on our heaters and natural furnaces to get past the cold and on air conditioners to get us through the warm and hot seasons. Industrially furnaces are used for many processes like the electric furnace is used for melting, holding, treating aluminum in aluminum industries, pushing furnace is used for refining steel etc.

The most common types of furnace are the gas furnaces. There are three basic types of gas furnaces. The first type is the conventional warm air furnace. It has the least efficiency. The second type is the Induced Draft Fan Furnace. It has better efficiency than the conventional type. It uses an electronic ignition, instead of a standing pilot. Thus a natural draft is created by drawing air from the opening at the front of furnace. It also uses a small fan for drawing in the combustion gas in the flue. This increases the efficiency of the furnace.

The third and the most efficient type is the High Efficiency Condensing Furnace. It is so called in this furnace there is a second heat exchanger where hot flue gasses are chilled till the point at which the water vapor will condense. This process allows the Condensing furnace to extract much more heat from the normal combustion process. Besides this, the resultant flue gases are pretty cool, and not hot, and thus they can be vented outside horizontally directly with a plastic pipe.

Many people nowadays prefer to install electric and economic furnaces in their homes instead of opting for conventional heater. Furnaces not only provide you efficient and good centralized heating throughout your home but will also reduce your electric bill upto a large amount. Just take care that you check the efficiency ratings before you buy the furnace. Also don't take an oversized furnace as it will get wasted in a small home. So choose a furnace according to the size of your house.

Just like we rely on our furnaces to get us through the cold and to help in our industrial operations, similarly our furnaces also rely on us to maintain them and take good care of them. Here are some tips to have long lasting furnaces. Firstly, furnaces should be cleaned at least once every year. You can do this annual checking in autumn so that by the time chilly winter comes, your furnace is as good as a new one. Apart from basic cleaning you also need to do a few observations and inspections. Replace the worn out copper tubing connectors periodically and check the Aluminum tubing for leakage at the connections by applying soap water to the joints.
